Normal Range of Blood Cholesterol Levels
Lowering cholesterol is a one important key in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. Always monitor your blood cholesterol levels, because there are no warning sign of high cholesterol symptoms.
Normal Range of Blood Cholesterol Levels for Total cholesterol the National Cholesterol Education Program classifies:
• Levels below 200 milligrams/dl (milligrams per deciliter) as “desirable.”
• Level -between 200 and 239 is “borderline high.”
• Over 240 is “high.”
Normal Range of Cholesterol Levels for Triglyceride levels:
• Less than 150 mg/dL - Normal
• 150-199 mg/dL - Borderline high
• 200-499 mg/dL - High
• 500 mg/dL and above Very high
Normal Range of Cholesterol Levels for LDL cholesterol levels
• 100 mg/dL is the optimal level
• Less than 130 mg/dL is best (near optimal for most people).
• Between 130 to 159 mg/dL is borderline high.
• 160 mg/dL or more means you're at higher risk for heart disease.
Normal Range of Cholesterol Levels for HDL cholesterol levels
• Less than 40 mg/dl means (for men) and less than 50 mg/dL (for women) you're at higher risk for heart disease.
• 60 mg/dl or above is considered protective against heart disease.
So, if your total cholesterol is 200 mg/dL or above, or your HDL cholesterol is less than 40 mg/dl means (for men) and less than 50 mg/dL (for women) you're at higher risk for heart disease or your have high cholesterol level, consult to your healthcare provider to monitor your cholesterol more closely.
